Understandings

Consider the following statements:

  • A good leader considers the will of the people.
  • To maintain control, you must have power.
  • Standing up to oppression takes great individual courage.
In view of what we have learned in our unit on the Middle Ages, choose one of the above statements and justify it through examples from our unit and if possible with examples from modern day society.

In view of what my class just learned in this unit on the middle ages I had to chose one of these topics to right about. " A good leader considers the will of the people, to maintain control you, you must have power and stranding up to oppression takes great individual courage. I am going to right a paragraph on maintaining control, you must have power.

To maintain control, you must have power. Duke William maintained control. He has a lot of power since he was king of england. One thing he had to keep control was that he was governing the country. Duke didn't want the old English nobles to keep their estates. They would be very powerful. They could even overthrow him. He was very careful not to randomly give land away. Since he had suporters they were regarded by doing duties to perform too. This is called the Feudal system. There is something called the "Doing Homage." The place, Normandy was when the bishops or the barons were given land. An oath is a promis and they had to swear on one of loyalty. They had to do this to the lord giving it. The bishops and or the barons then becomes tenants-in-chief. The decided to provide knights which were mounted soldiers to guard castles or fight in wars for lords. They chose many nights by the land the baron was provided.

Duke William

Now, we know who became King of England after the Battles of Stamford Bridge and Hastings in 1066, but who do you think had the strongest claim?  Harald Hardrada, Harold Godwinson or William of Normandy?  Write one paragraph in which you state who had the best claim to be King and why.

There were there kings who asked and wanted to be kings and there were only allowed one for it and  to me I would pick Duke William. All three of them realy wanted to be king like anyone else would. There are many reasons why I think Duke should be the king. One reason is because of the pope on his side an it helps them lead the way to the goal. Another reason is that Duke William he is noble. People thought many things about him such as having good ideas of what kings need to have been doing. Eventually, he was the conquer of England. He already has a picture in his mind about a future. They had a strong feeling he would be a good king over all the other people who want to be king as well and this was a response to why I think I would pick Duke William as a King/conquerer

In class we were supposed to read one artical out of three and the poems were either The Mysterious Major, Schindler List and finally, The courage of Le chambon. The one I was given was the one called The "Mysterious Major" and the questions that I had to answer are what did Schmahlikng mean when he said that in crushing the boy in his classroom, he was destroying something in himself? What was he destroying and how was it like what the Nazis were destroying in the people they ruled. What Schmahlikng meant when he said that in crushing the boy in his classroom, he was destroying something in himself means that he thinks he was being mean, hurtful and a bullying to the boy. It also destroyed something in himself and that was his inner self. The major did something that would affect how he felt about himself forever. He was ashamed. What he was destroying was the way he felt about himself, how less about who they were, helpless to do anything, felt like they were being bullied, tesed and thats how the Nazis feel about themself as well.

Which Sonia Weitz poem did you choose?  Sum up your annotations, then reflect on parts of the poem that really stood out for you.  How can you make a personal connection to the poem? How did it make you feel?

There were three choices for poems that we read in class. The one I picked after reading all three was called "Victory" by Sonia Weitz and I chose it because I thought it was the shortest one but most interesting one out of all three in my opinion and I found a couple of metaphor in the poem and that is when it said "There are no tools to measure love". I don't think I have any connections to this poem.

Hitler

For this blog, we were assigned to talk about Hitler. The questions that we were supposed to answer were:
1. What are Civil rights? What are some that we have?
2.Why might some of Hitler's measures in ablating personal freedoms and Civil Rights be seen by some as a positive or necessary move?

Question one (a). Civil rights are when you are able to have rights of what you want to do. Somethings like freedom, be safe, have your own privacy when it is needed, able to have to sit in public transport without being judged by your race, be able to live where they want to, make freedom speeches and other speeches and much more. Question one (b). I think we have the rights to do all the things I listed above. Question two: Hitler's measures in ablating personal freedoms and Civil Rights be seen by some as a positive or necessary move is because some people thought when Hitler said that a building was burning which was set by a fire and that they thought it was fair to abolish their rights to do what ever they wanted such as the things I listed for what Civil rights mean. Another example is that Hitler thought that he could make the world be a better place but in the end he ended being the one who started world war two.

Unfair

Today in class we had to read a treaty and highlight the main parts of the story, comment on what we don’t understand or was confused on. For our homework we were supposed to explain a few reasons we think it is fair or not. The treaty I read today in class to me was fairly unfair to the government and to Germanys people. They have so little solders, weapons and transportation. Therefore it is hard for them to protect their self from other places that could and may attack them in the sooner or later in the future. Germany causes damage and they are the ones that will eventually pay for it and the other people that live in Germany have caused and I don’t think that is very fair for the Germany citizens but it might be for other countries because they don’t have to worry about anything to do with cost. Some sentences in this passage is not true and people think it is very obvious that it is not true just b reading it. Two quotes I got from the passage that I thought were not true are ' Germany and her Allies accept the responsibility for causing all the loss and damage to the Allied Powers.' Another one would be “It is the principle of justice to all peoples and nationalities, and their right to live on equal terms of liberty and safety with one another, whether they be strong or weak. Unless this principle be made its foundation, no part of the structure of international justice can stand.”

Religion Response:

A 'good' life has meaning.

Would I agree to this statement? Maybe. Could be. Depends. 50-50 (half/half). For now, I think my life is good but then it might develop a true meaning to me. Some peoples meanings in life could be to spread blessing around the entire world in the name of Jesus. Im guessing those people are good and it does have a lot of meaning to that person. I would be honest by saying that life doesn’t really have to have means to have a good life. What really counts in your life is that you must have a reason to keep you busy in the days. To me life is great and it doesn’t necessarily need to have a meaning to some people. This concludes my reason as to why I think I am a 50-50 (half-half) however, it can be good if it doesn’t have any yet though. Since I explained I think is a true meaning in life, well maybe, I want it to happen to me soon and for meanings that are the things that could maybe have a difference in a world to make me a better person.
