Understandings

Consider the following statements:

  • A good leader considers the will of the people.
  • To maintain control, you must have power.
  • Standing up to oppression takes great individual courage.
In view of what we have learned in our unit on the Middle Ages, choose one of the above statements and justify it through examples from our unit and if possible with examples from modern day society.

In view of what my class just learned in this unit on the middle ages I had to chose one of these topics to right about. " A good leader considers the will of the people, to maintain control you, you must have power and stranding up to oppression takes great individual courage. I am going to right a paragraph on maintaining control, you must have power.

To maintain control, you must have power. Duke William maintained control. He has a lot of power since he was king of england. One thing he had to keep control was that he was governing the country. Duke didn't want the old English nobles to keep their estates. They would be very powerful. They could even overthrow him. He was very careful not to randomly give land away. Since he had suporters they were regarded by doing duties to perform too. This is called the Feudal system. There is something called the "Doing Homage." The place, Normandy was when the bishops or the barons were given land. An oath is a promis and they had to swear on one of loyalty. They had to do this to the lord giving it. The bishops and or the barons then becomes tenants-in-chief. The decided to provide knights which were mounted soldiers to guard castles or fight in wars for lords. They chose many nights by the land the baron was provided.

Duke William

Now, we know who became King of England after the Battles of Stamford Bridge and Hastings in 1066, but who do you think had the strongest claim?  Harald Hardrada, Harold Godwinson or William of Normandy?  Write one paragraph in which you state who had the best claim to be King and why.

There were there kings who asked and wanted to be kings and there were only allowed one for it and  to me I would pick Duke William. All three of them realy wanted to be king like anyone else would. There are many reasons why I think Duke should be the king. One reason is because of the pope on his side an it helps them lead the way to the goal. Another reason is that Duke William he is noble. People thought many things about him such as having good ideas of what kings need to have been doing. Eventually, he was the conquer of England. He already has a picture in his mind about a future. They had a strong feeling he would be a good king over all the other people who want to be king as well and this was a response to why I think I would pick Duke William as a King/conquerer

In class we were supposed to read one artical out of three and the poems were either The Mysterious Major, Schindler List and finally, The courage of Le chambon. The one I was given was the one called The "Mysterious Major" and the questions that I had to answer are what did Schmahlikng mean when he said that in crushing the boy in his classroom, he was destroying something in himself? What was he destroying and how was it like what the Nazis were destroying in the people they ruled. What Schmahlikng meant when he said that in crushing the boy in his classroom, he was destroying something in himself means that he thinks he was being mean, hurtful and a bullying to the boy. It also destroyed something in himself and that was his inner self. The major did something that would affect how he felt about himself forever. He was ashamed. What he was destroying was the way he felt about himself, how less about who they were, helpless to do anything, felt like they were being bullied, tesed and thats how the Nazis feel about themself as well.

Which Sonia Weitz poem did you choose?  Sum up your annotations, then reflect on parts of the poem that really stood out for you.  How can you make a personal connection to the poem? How did it make you feel?

There were three choices for poems that we read in class. The one I picked after reading all three was called "Victory" by Sonia Weitz and I chose it because I thought it was the shortest one but most interesting one out of all three in my opinion and I found a couple of metaphor in the poem and that is when it said "There are no tools to measure love". I don't think I have any connections to this poem.

Hitler

For this blog, we were assigned to talk about Hitler. The questions that we were supposed to answer were:
1. What are Civil rights? What are some that we have?
2.Why might some of Hitler's measures in ablating personal freedoms and Civil Rights be seen by some as a positive or necessary move?

Question one (a). Civil rights are when you are able to have rights of what you want to do. Somethings like freedom, be safe, have your own privacy when it is needed, able to have to sit in public transport without being judged by your race, be able to live where they want to, make freedom speeches and other speeches and much more. Question one (b). I think we have the rights to do all the things I listed above. Question two: Hitler's measures in ablating personal freedoms and Civil Rights be seen by some as a positive or necessary move is because some people thought when Hitler said that a building was burning which was set by a fire and that they thought it was fair to abolish their rights to do what ever they wanted such as the things I listed for what Civil rights mean. Another example is that Hitler thought that he could make the world be a better place but in the end he ended being the one who started world war two.

Unfair

Today in class we had to read a treaty and highlight the main parts of the story, comment on what we don’t understand or was confused on. For our homework we were supposed to explain a few reasons we think it is fair or not. The treaty I read today in class to me was fairly unfair to the government and to Germanys people. They have so little solders, weapons and transportation. Therefore it is hard for them to protect their self from other places that could and may attack them in the sooner or later in the future. Germany causes damage and they are the ones that will eventually pay for it and the other people that live in Germany have caused and I don’t think that is very fair for the Germany citizens but it might be for other countries because they don’t have to worry about anything to do with cost. Some sentences in this passage is not true and people think it is very obvious that it is not true just b reading it. Two quotes I got from the passage that I thought were not true are ' Germany and her Allies accept the responsibility for causing all the loss and damage to the Allied Powers.' Another one would be “It is the principle of justice to all peoples and nationalities, and their right to live on equal terms of liberty and safety with one another, whether they be strong or weak. Unless this principle be made its foundation, no part of the structure of international justice can stand.”

Religion Response:

A 'good' life has meaning.

Would I agree to this statement? Maybe. Could be. Depends. 50-50 (half/half). For now, I think my life is good but then it might develop a true meaning to me. Some peoples meanings in life could be to spread blessing around the entire world in the name of Jesus. Im guessing those people are good and it does have a lot of meaning to that person. I would be honest by saying that life doesn’t really have to have means to have a good life. What really counts in your life is that you must have a reason to keep you busy in the days. To me life is great and it doesn’t necessarily need to have a meaning to some people. This concludes my reason as to why I think I am a 50-50 (half-half) however, it can be good if it doesn’t have any yet though. Since I explained I think is a true meaning in life, well maybe, I want it to happen to me soon and for meanings that are the things that could maybe have a difference in a world to make me a better person.

The serenity to change the things I can

The serenity to change the things I can is the topic I am going to talk about today. The belief that guy was discussing or was talking about is about this. He hates it when other people, even his family litters and he said in the record that even one person can change the world even just buy picking up one piece of litter and that he dumped someone just because she littered and made him pick up the plastic. He also puts trash cans everyday.
The next question I am going to focus on is: Why did it appeal to me? I thought it did because who would go and check the dustbin that doesn't belong to you? On top of that, he also sorts out the trash like the plastic, paper, etc.

Daedalus and Icarus

The movies that I watched in class were movies that fascinated and shocked me. I think the narrator was quite interesting because he explained clearly. This narrator had a dog that can talk and the dog asked the questions which had to do with the movie and he answered the questions. The dog was also very sympathetic while he was telling the story. Which both of the movies had though. However, I did not have a favorite movie because they were both depressing and I don't like depressing movies. One movie was about Daedalus and Icarus, and the other movie was about Theseus and the Minotaur. The one that I liked more was Daedalus and Icarus. The reason why I like Daedalus and Icarus is because it shows how the father loves the children and family. I can understand the dislikes that they had against each other in their lives. This concludes to which movie that I enjoyed the most.

Reflectioin

I thought that the school year went by so fast. Well at least faster than other grades. I am now going to share you some things that we did and I did in 6th grade this year.

This year in 6th grade, we did a lot of things and projects that was to do with group work. However, I think I didn't do well on my literate circle as much as I did on the most recent project which we just finished (tick-tack-toe). We were supposed to do a project on China and basically the religion dynasties and the geography in Ancient China. I think I did well because in the beginning of the year, I didn’t do as much work as I did for the tick-tack-toe thingy. The thing is that I don’t really know why I did better.

For me, I had some challenges through our this year. First of all, I thought that the lit circles was hard, but as I practiced it, I think it is not hard any more. Another thing that I thought was challenging was the first tick-tack-toe firstly because I didn't like that book that we had to do a tick-tack-toe on and I tend to not focus when I don't like that subject but that rally happens. The book that we were doing the tick-tack-toe on was called Call It Courage. I didn't really like that book and so I kinda didn't do a lot of work. I just helped edit one part and that is all I did. My partners were called Esme and Nick.

Reflecting on my growth this year, I learned a lot of things about my self as a learner. A way that helped us learn this year was when we did this thing to find your profile and I didn't know that I was profile '' I '' which I thought was kind of cool. Everyone now knows what their type of learner they are because we studied about that.
To evaluate your work habits, choose 1 of the following from each category ( and provide explanations): your work habits, (and provide explanations.

Behavior- I think my behavior was satisfactory through out this year but some how, I think I could have improved in a way which I am not sure of but also I think I did not say anything that was not polite and I didn't disrupt the class and I didn't interrupt my teacher in class when he was talking. If I did, it would have been rarely.

Based upon your reflections, write two personal learning goals for Grade 7 next year.

Goal 1 - In Grade 7, I plan to do a little more than I am expiated in work and humanities especially because I am only doing what I am supposed to do but I also want to write more about what I am supposed to write about to get a better grade.

Goal 2- Another goal that I have that I could improve the next year is my organization because in the beginning of the year, I didn't really complete my lititure circles on time and I think I have to work on that task.

I was asked if I had anything else to let my teachers know, but I don't think I have anything else to say about myself during this year.

There were somethings that I though was fun this year. I think that was the diary entrys because I thought it was a good experience and I could also learn more about the person I was told to do which was a peasant and I think it was one of the most essayist thing that my class did. That is because I do my own diaries at home for fun and I also like doing them.

I was supposed to tell what I enjoyed about the diary and I think I enjoyed the fact that when we finished the diary enteries, we could have decorated it to be old and or put it on a blog which is what I did because when I did made it as a book, it was ripped a part and so I thought it was better to do it on the internet/blog same thing.

We were told to tell what we could have spent a little time on and this is what I think. Well, there are many things that I could have spent on but here is one of the things which I thought we should have worked on this year in 6th grade. I think we could have worked on the diaries more because we didn't have that mush time but I finished it on time. However, I still wished we were given a bit more time so that I could work on other homework as well as doing the diary. Those are my thoughts.

There are many advises that I would have give to the class of 2018. Here are some thoughts or advises. First of all, for the lit circles, if they still do them, you should always do one box a day. Second of all, you should share it the minute you open the document if not you might forget to share it with your teacher which is what I once did. Lastly, you should always also back up your work because you might lose your work which happened to my friend a few times (not mentioning any names though...)

White Mountains

Dear family, citizens of Wherton,

I am sorry about the way that I left Wherton the way that I did and I wished I could have told you that I did but I did not have the courage to. A cuple of reasons why I left Wherton is what I am going to tell you about in this letter and by the way, there is no point in looking for me because you might never find me but me, Henry and Beanpole are great!

Well, like I said, I did leave home for many reasons, actually, just three reasons. I might have left home for more reasons, but I can't think of them all right now. Here are the reasons I know why I left home. First of all, Jack was my friend but until I knew that he was capped, that was when I decided to leave home. I missed the old Jack and I also wanted to leave the town or our home because of that and something else. I did not like the fact that Henry's mom passed away and that he had to live with me because I am not used to sleeping in the same room or actually sharing a room with any one because I am the only child. I also did not even like Henry one bit then, but since we are grown up we have a closer relation ship which is a great reason that he left with me. Also I met a person who’s name was Xhonpole but I can’t say that name so I call him Beanpole and he told me that there is a place that was full of non capped people living there and I do not want to get capped so I had a long journey.

Secondly, I am going to talk about choices in the world and the importancey of choices and the one that I reasonly had made. There are many choices in life that I could have made and one of them is chosing what you want in life, which for me is running a way from home, which I regreted not telling you and felt awful that I did. However, I had to get capped, but I didn’t want to. Luckily, I met Beanpole who told me where the people that wasn’t capped from and I wanted to go there.

Well, that comes to the end of my letter.

From Will.

The white mountains

Tripods controlled the people by capping them. They cap them by depositing a metal cap on the head of the people. However, they do have to be a certain age to be capped, which is around fourteen. Capping is also the time when you go from being a child to being an adult. You cannot do what ever you want because you are now capped or in other words, you will be controlled by people that cap you. Jack is finally capped and Will goes to talk to him about it. Will hesitated and blurted out, "what was it like?" Jack shook his head and told Will he was not permitted to talk about it. "I will promise you this though. It will not hurt and they do it for our good." The made it easy for the Tripods to control peoples thoughts and get them to do what they wanted.

Well, Will misses a girl which she likes in this book is called Eloise. Will can not be with her because she is capped. Being capped means to be controlled by someone with a cap in the persons head like a hat but instead, its a metal hat. One example that was said in chapter six was when Find evidence (quotes) to

the book said, " I wished Eloise was here." That is one of the quotes which I thought was why Will was frustrated about the comete, Comtesse and Eloise being capped in this story.

Lastly, the evidence that shows how Will feels about being capped is what this paragraph is going to be about. I think Will is sad to be capped because he does not have any freedom in his life anymore.

Sara Goei's answer to How will Beanpole help Will and Henry on their journey to the White Mountains?

How will Beanpole help Will and Henry on their journey to the White Mountains?

First of all, who is Beanpole in this story do you wonder? Well, Beanpole's name is actually spelt Zhanpole which is a French name and they are in France which makes sence to have a local name when they are in France. Unfortunatlly, Will and Henry find it hard to say or prounce his name so then they came out of an easier name which they can actually say, which is Beanpole and I prefre the name Beanpole so I would use that name in this artical. If you are wondering why or how he helped Henry and Will along their journey then just keep on reading this artical and I hope it will help you understand how Beanpole helped Will and Henry along their journey.

Do you people wonder how Beanpole helped Henry and Will during the journey? The good thing is that he can speek both English and French. I think that he is also a smart person and he also helped helped Will and Henry a lot. That is because he gave instructions on how to get to the desrtination. He also told Will and Henry, his cousin if they are lost. The other thing that I think he helped Will and Hennry through out the journey so far is because Beapole made food for Will and Henry. Lastly, they have something in common. That is because they are in the same age group.

How Is Will Like Me, You Ask?

In Humanities, we have been assigned to read a book called the Giver or The White Mountains. The book Mr. Thomas told me to read is The White Mountains. In this blog/article I am going to talk about how the character Will is like me. Or in other words, I'll tell you about what Will and I have in common. Many of the other students has told me they like this book and I definitely agree. I would recommend this book to people who like science fiction.

Will and I have some things in common and some things which are not in common. Will is a kind and passive person and I think I am a kind person at times. I wish I was kind all the time and it is something I am working on. Will shows his kindness when he wants to show his fathers watch to Jake. He wanted to share this with his friend. That is kindness to me. Will is also a passive person. That to me is someone who is too shy to stand up for his or herself. It usually depends on my mood if I want to be passive or aggressive. When Will and Henry were fighting I felt he could do more to stand up for himself. Also, when Henry moved into Will's house I thought that Will should have questioned his moving in more to his mother but he just let it happen.

Will and I are also around the same age and that is another thing we have in common. The one thing that I don't have in common and am really happy about is that I haven't been capped although, sometimes I feel like it at school when I am told what to do all the time. Capped means someone being in control of you.

That is what Will and I have in common. Again, you should read this book if you haven't yet. If you enjoy science fiction you will like it.

A reflection about my project

1) What you believe you did well on the project?
2) What you would improve for future presentations/projects?
3) What did you learn from your preparation (for your presentation) in
addition to the presentations of others?
4) What is your analysis of your performance?
Lastly, include a link to your Google Docs city presentation on your blog.

What you believe you did well on the project?

1.)I believe that I have a simple powerpoint, yet there is plenty of information for others to extract from it. The people who read it will also gain some more facts about my country,Kuala Lumpur. I also believe that my pictures are reasonable and fit the topic well. The grammar and punctuation was a not a concern and done to my best ability.
I always reread my sentences over and over again and then I check along the way. Sometimes others will also read my work and help me to edit my mistakes.

What you would improve for future presentations/projects?

2.)The thing that I would improve is the my format. I did not keep it the same throughout the project. I also struggled with the placement of the pictures, to make sure they were in the appropriate place. Some images had pixillation problems and wasn't clear, especially if you saw it from a close distance. Finally,I could have improved on a better choice of pictures. Some pictures were small and unclear.

3.)What did you learn from your preparation (for your presentation) in
addition to the presentations of others?

I learned to put in lots of information and to keep others attention. I need to make sure that I speak loud and clear and not to be too nervous. I learned about my own country and how natural resources generate a healthy economy, which makes Malaysia more inviting for foreigners to trade and cultivate a relationship. Because I was interested in the subject, I became more creative by adding some color into it since I am a gestalt learner. Although we presented different cities, most of us basically had the same structure.

4) What is your analysis of your performance?
The way I presented my presentation was clear and loud. I was not nervous at all because I have had this experience severel times my life and I am confident that I will not stumble in any place. I tend to get nervous in front of a sea of people. I think I did okay.

Here is my powerpoint:
